Twists are some of those basic yogas that give strength to both the back and abdominal muscles, increasing flexibility in the spine. They improve circulation by supplying oxygenated blood to all the cells of the body and heightening the function of the viscera.

A general yoga class would begin with standing poses, which easily introduce yogic practice. These poses are low-impact and thus help strengthen the legs and hips while promoting balance and stability. Such a class usually ends with several restorative and relaxation poses that enable the energizing effect of the practice to flow freely through the body for general wellness.
